Speaker and Director Khotso Khabele founded the Khabele School after being struck by the profound need for a new way of educating students. Growing up in Lesotho, Southern Africa until the age of 12 gave him unique insight into many of the strengths and possibilities in the American education system. He graduated from U.T. with a B.A. in Economics and began teaching Science. He discovered the importance of developing learning environments, and felt called to take deeper responsibility for educating youth, parents, and communities.
Khotso founded the Khabele School in 2001 and continued to teach. In 2003 he moved into the Director position. He has led the school from its beginnings as a tiny experiment in education with nine students, to a school serving more than 400 students on two campuses. He plans to expand the Khabele model to other schools, cities, and states, so that all education programs will combine a drive for leadership and excellence with a positive school culture and love of learning.
