You
have not experienced true entertainment until you sit in
the audience at one of Steve Poltz's shows. The former singer
from The Rugburns (Mercury Records) is best known for his
hilarious storytelling and witty personality, defying all
traditional definitions in the songwriting genre. This is
a rare artist who is as comfortable touring with such noted
national acts like Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Jewel, The
Wallflowers, Bare Naked Ladies, Rusted Root and Lucinda
Williams in arenas, as well as performing intimate living
room shows in any city in America. Successfully shattering
the traditional troubadour mold, Poltz has most gloriously
been compared to unique performers and songwriters like
John Prine and Tom Waits. Steve wrote and appeared in the
video of the 1995 hit, "You Were Meant For Me"
helping launch Jewel's debut CD to triple platinum.
“I proceeded to be blown away by the depth and excellence of his tunes; his sharp, witty lyrics; his voice—which alternately reminded me of Jeff Tweedy and David Lowery; and his hysterical storytelling and rants.”
--Seattle Weekly
“…a complete and satisfying listen.”
--Time Out New York
“As fiercely idiosyncratic and iconoclastic as Joseph Arthur, Poltz sings songs with a satirical double-edge that can make you laugh and cry at the same time.
--LA Times
“…a master of darkly comic songwriting.”
--San Diego CityBeat
“The recently released 'Traveling' offers smartly executed folk rock that
sounds like Wilco produced by George Martin.”
--Cleveland Scene
“…inspired and winning…”
--Honest Tune
“Poltz puts genuine heart into his work…’Traveling’ is worth the trip.”
--Scripps-Howard News Service
“…clever, witty and incisive…”
--Pioneer Press
“…vastly entertaining. We highly recommend this CD and this artist…”
--Puremusic
“His new solo album, ‘Traveling,’ is impressive; not just for its wide and wry perspective but for how emotionally potent Poltz can be when untangling the pretzel logic of the human condition.”
--Winston-Salem Journal
“…full of exuberant, life-affirming songs.”
--Ventura County Star
“This disc presents a fascinating artist; one that most of us would love to travel with and get to know better.”
--PopMatters
